Correction to ‘Changes needed in shared governance documents about reductions

November 07, 2017 / Phil Lesch

On October 19, 2017 in a blog post, we provided a recommendation of sample language that units might adopt about how to handle reductions in labor force within their units.  Our recommendation came as a result of reductions announced for Non-Tenure Track Faculty (NTTF) in four units, (three of which did not have any applicable shared governance language) and other faculty members who were concerned about reductions in their own units.

We've since learned that some faculty intended to insert the sample language we recommended in our 10/19 post to update their bylaws related to reductions in workforce within their unit. We discussed the sample language this week with OAA, and discovered there are some aspects of the sample language that may not be approved by OAA.

As such, PSU-AAUP and OAA agreed to create template sample language for bylaw revisions supporting Article 18 Section 2, as we have done in the past for other bylaw provisions. We will fast track that process, and attempt to provide sample language by the end of the year.

Please do not submit bylaw revisions for review to OAA with the sample language from October 19. Please wait for the template sample language under development, and submit a version of that language that is appropriate for your unit.

If you have any questions please let Phil Lesch know.
