Introduction to members and member leaders

Hello, and New Year greetings! I'm José Padin and I'm your PSU-AAUP President. Beginning this term, your member messages will include an introduction to members and member-leaders in our union. We are a union of almost 1300 faculty (tenure-line, non-tenure track, research) and academic professionals, and our volunteer member-leaders are the steam that our union runs on!

I joined PSU-AAUP because having an AAUP union is, far and away, the most effective way to have a strong voice in shaping PSU and the priorities of our university. In addition to my current presidency of PSU-AAUP, I've served as President of AAUP-Oregon, Vice-President for Academic Freedom and Grievances for PSU-AAUP, PSU representative to the Oregon Inter-institutional Faculty Senate, PSU Faculty Senate, and on the national executive council of the AAUP Collective Bargaining Congress.

In this new year I look forward to continue representing PSU-AAUP member interests to President Shoureshi and the Board of Trustees, to AAUP-Oregon (and via AAUP-Oregon, to the legislature) and working alongside colleagues on Faculty Senate and an our sister campus unions.

Have a great start of term!
