BARGAINING

Joint Update on Bargaining - Two New Tentative Agreements Reached

December 02, 2015 / Phil Lesch

The University and AAUP are pleased to announce that we have come to two more tentative agreements during contract negotiations:
Summer Session:

  • Summer Session salary rates will be added to Article 30 (Salary).
  • Faculty who teach during the summer will be paid no less than 2.5% of their annual salary rate per credit.  This is the “historic” rate of pay.
  • The administration will track the mix of faculty assigned to teach Summer Session courses and course cancellations.  This data will be shared with AAUP no later than October 1.
  • If we agree to a contract that is longer than two years, we will have the option to bargain additional language around Summer Session midway through the contract.

Faculty Senate Task Force on Teaching-Intensive Tenure:

  • We have requested Faculty Senate create a joint task force that includes representatives from Faculty Senate, Administration and AAUP.  The Task Force will explore the possibility of creating a teaching-intensive tenure by researching models from other universities, holding public forums and soliciting feedback from campus stakeholders.
  • Teaching-Intensive Tenure, if approved, would not replace traditional tenure or continuous appointments.
  • Consistent with our current practice, any changes to the P&T Guidelines will be brought to the Faculty Senate for consideration.  The impacts of those changes would have to be bargained.

The tentative agreements we reached will become part of our successor Collective Bargaining Agreement and will be ratified by PSU AAUP members and the Board of Trustees.
AAUP and the University look forward to continuing our discussions using the Interest-Based Bargaining process.  We hope to announce additional tentative agreements soon!
