A hallmark strategy for an effective labor movement is to join hands in solidarity with other labor activists and movements. This week PSU-AAUP members will have an opportunity to support our adjunct colleagues who, over spring break, are entering in to contract negotiations with the administration. Adjunct faculty teach 34% of PSU’s student credit hours, yet earn far from a living wage. In advance of bargaining, Portland State University’s Faculty Association (the union for PSU adjuncts) is holding a rally this Friday, March 16 at 1:00 in the Park Blocks in front of Smith Student Memorial Union. Please come support them and their bargaining kick off campaign. Wear your red t-shirts, bring your PSU-AAUP umbrellas and stand in solidarity with them. Remember: they were there supporting us in 2014, marching with us in the rain AND agreeing not to serve as “substitutes” for us if we were to go on strike. It is our turn to support them. Thank you! Remember: better working conditions for all educators, researchers and academic professionals means that PSU students get a better education.
