Supreme Court annouced it will hear Janus V. AFSCME Council 31

September 28, 2017 / Phil Lesch

The US Supreme Court announced that it will hear a case, called Janus v. AFSCME Council 31, which anti-union forces have pushed in an attempt to have fair-share fees ruled unconstitutional for public-sector employees. The Supreme Court will next schedule briefing and oral argument.

National AAUP anticipates submitting an amicus brief arguing that fair share fees are constitutional.

This legal threat to union rights is part of a broader effort to weaken unions as effective representatives for working people, undermine public services, and erode the common good. For PSU-AAUP and other collective bargaining chapters, these efforts amount to a direct attack on the democratically elected voice of the faculty.

In the coming months we will be talking with members on how to organize about Janus. Please pay attention, come to PSU-AAUP events, and get involved. The survival of your union will depend on it.
