BARGAINING FOR COST-OF-LIVING INCREASES WILL BEGIN IN 2 WEEKS

August 11, 2022 / PSU-AAUP

Here’s what you can expect August 24 - Your Presence Matters!

The PSU-AAUP bargaining team will next meet with the Administration at the bargaining table on Wednesday, August 24. This meeting has been scheduled as an in-person session! We have requested that this meeting also be simultaneously broadcast via Zoom.

Here’s Where We’re At

As is the process in Interest-Based Bargaining (IBB), up to this point the two teams have been outlining their respective interests on the many issues facing PSU faculty and APs. To date, those presented by PSU-AAUP are:

  • The needs of caregivers,
  • Expanded uses of IPDA funds,
  • Expansion of the staff fee privilege (tuition discount for dependents), and
  • Cost-of-Living salary adjustments.

As you know from the email announcing the member ratification vote last week, the bargaining team completed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Administration on the staff fee privilege 2 weeks ago.

Because this particular issue affects faculty and APs’s financial planning for the 2022-2023 school year, the PSU-AAUP team chose to wrap up the expansion of the staff fee privilege separately and send it to you immediately.

For a deeper dive on what else has already been accomplished at the table, see previous updates here.

COLAs/Salaries Are Up Next

On August 24, the PSU-AAUP Bargaining team anticipates finishing up defining our interests, and discussing data related to caregiver needs, IPDA funds, and COLAs. We have already introduced all of these issues, and provided broad overviews of these topics, including the impact of the economic costs of the pandemic–including inflation–on faculty and APs. Then we will move on to review financial scenarios.

Both AAUP and Administration have been instructed by the mediator to come prepared with financial scenarios, in actual dollars and cents. One could think of this as a beta test for the costing model that the bargaining teams use to understand economic proposals.

The scenarios the PSU-AAUP team will bring forward will reflect faculty and APs’s financial realities, but aren’t considered formal proposals in the traditional sense at this point.

Formal financial proposals will hit the table August 31 - September 1 during the “economic summit” days.

Your presence at bargaining sessions, either in person or by Zoom, makes a real difference!
This difference is obvious to PSU-AAUP bargaining team members
and to staff and leaders observing the impact over the past few months.
