Cost of Living Adjustments in our 2019 Paychecks!

January 16, 2019 / PSU-AAUP

Hello fellow AAUP members,

We all know that the Portland metro region is an increasingly expensive place to live. I am delighted to share that because of the strength of our union, you will be receiving a 2019 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) in your regular paychecks! 12 month employees will see the increase starting on your January 31 paycheck, and 9 mo employees will see the increase in their February 28 paycheck.

For most AAUP members, the COLA will be an additional 3.3% in pay. Academic Professionals will see a higher adjustment on their paycheck of 0.9%, which will be paid as an across the board increase because the Classification & Compensation study, (implemented in Letter of Agreement 8 of the 2015-19 CBA) that the increase was supposed to fund is not complete.

Our union, PSU-AAUP, obtained a commitment to annual cost of living adjustments (COLA) in our 2015-19 collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with PSU based on a CPI-U index. The index we agreed on was discontinued, and we recently reached agreement to use the “CPI-U Western States.”

Together, our union of over 1,200 members (almost 90% of instructional faculty and academic professionals) makes collective wins! We are gearing up for the next round of collective bargaining in the spring of 2019 and will continue to advocate for these kinds of benefits for our members.

Happy 2019!

Megan Horst, AAUP Member and Executive Council Member,

Assistant Professor, Urban Studies and Planning
