Advising Redesign Implementation Session 2

November 14, 2017 / Phil Lesch

This is the joint communication that PSU-AAUP proposed that we make about yesterday's session.

On November 13, 2017 the Administration and PSU-AAUP Negotiating teams met for session 2 of Interest Based Bargaining. The teams identified the themes/topics for framing- the areas we believe we will discuss. They are:

  1. Advisor Role and Responsibility
    1. Pathway advisors
    2. Faculty advisors
    3. Embedded advisors
  2. Advisor Assignments
    1. Workload
    2. supervision
  3. Appointments/Advisor 1 or 2 (job classification/assignment)
  4. Scheduling and appointments
  5. Communication: within unit and across campus
  6. Training and support
  7. Personnel Evaluation and supervision (Directors and Advisors)
    1. Role and authority of pathway Director
    2. Performance expectations
    3. Performance criteria
  8. Advisor Location
  9. Program Evaluation Assessment/Accountability
    1. Advisors in the new system, how it’s going to be assessed, what is the transition to be

The teams spent some time in caucus, and decided that we would start framing with advisor roles and responsibilities. The framing question we adopted for this area is: What roles and responsibilities do professional, embedded, and faculty advisors have in Pathways advising?
