AAUP DSLB Reminder - Winter 2020

February 10, 2020 / Heather Nahmias

With the flu season and other winter ailments upon us, we want to remind members who are part of the AAUP Donated Sick Leave Bank (DSLB) to make sure you’re tracking your remaining/available sick leave in case you need to make a request to use hours from the DSLB! This is a wonderful benefit through our union.

There’s often a lag in reporting sick time accrual or usage through the HR system, but you can check your hours in the Leave Dashboard in BanWeb.  Check the leave summary at the bottom where you will see your available leave minus your pending requests (leave taken within the month).  If you are have any questions about your leave, you can always check with HR by emailing leaves@pdx.edu.

Please use this link to complete and submit your request to use the AAUP Donated Sick Leave Bank if you think you may need it:

AAUP DSLB Request Form

This safety net ensures that when you are sick or need to take care of a family member you will be covered even when your paid sick leave runs out. To review the process and full benefit rules, please review the MOU To Article 32.2 in the 2015-2019 CBA.

All members are automatically enrolled in the Donated Sick Leave Bank unless they opt out during Open Enrollment.

Some great things about this benefit:

  • By putting in your annual 7 hrs to the Sick Leave Bank, you’re  able to access up to 20 working days and request an additional 20 working days (up to 40 total) should you need to. If you’re someone without a lot of sick hours stocked up, by being part of the Donated Sick Leave Bank, you’re still able to access even more hours than you would have!

  • This benefit can be used for anything that qualifies under FMLA, OFLA, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), or PSU’s standards around sick time (read those here).

For any questions, feel free to reach out to Sick Leave Bank Committee members (Krista Kennedy - krista5@pdx.edu, Sarah Giles - sagiles@pdx.edu, and Susan Reese - sgreese@pdx.edu), Phil Lesch or Jack Dorkey - leaves@pdx.edu (HR Accessibility and Leaves Administrator).
