Executive Council votes to support AFSCME Local 2831 strike in Lane County

October 06, 2017 / Phil Lesch

The Executive Council voted to support and sanction the AFSCME Local 2831 in Lane County, which represents 573 members in the general bargaining unit and 98 members in the nurses bargaining unit. After many months at the table, they have been unable to reach a fair and equitable contract.

The strike date has not yet been declared, but picketing locations have been established.  Though there will be no picket lines in Portland, we ask members who will be in Lane County to please honor the picket lines and not patronize the offices being picketed. Members inclined to do so are also welcome to join the picket line.

Update: A strike was enacted on Oct. 18 2017. This letter of support was sent from PSU-AAUP to the Lane County Board of County Commissioners.
