Inside a March 6th Finance & Administration Committee meeting, PSU President Cudd and the PSU Board of Trustees framed our labor unions, multi-year contracts, shared governance, and state and federal law as “operational complexities.” This comes after 12 Intensive English Language Faculty have been given layoff notices to be effective this summer and the Board's Finance Chair Sheryl Manning pushed for additional layoffs by next fall.
After 1,300+ emails to President Cudd and the Board of Trustees, join PSU-AAUP members, fellow PSU unions, and campus community members this Thursday, April 4th, and Friday, April 5th to show the PSU Board of Trustees that we need them to call for no more layoffs, respect for union contracts and shared governance, and substantive investment of reserves in faculty and staff. What the Board’s Finance and Administration committee decides on Thursday will be forwarded to the full Friday meeting. PSU-AAUP members attending will be especially important Friday.
Faculty, staff, and allies will speak out, calling on the Board and University Administration to respect PSU’s long-enshrined union contracts and shared governance processes. Union members will speak to the challenges of PSU becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander (AANAPISI) institution while administrators continue to cut student-facing services and instruction to retain students with these identities.
